This is worth sharing:
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WTVC-TV) - A 4-year-old boy, beer in hand, is accused of stealing Christmas presents from his neighbors. It's a strange story, but also a sad one.
April Wright is 21 years old and is going through a divorce with her husband who is in jail. She says she is not sure how her 4-year-old managed to get out of the house, open a beer, and steal the neighbors presents from under their tree. Now she's just glad he's okay and says she won't let it happen again.
The child, Hayden Wright, was found around 1:45 am Tuesday, wandering the streets of his neighborhood. In a police reports, officers said he was wearing a little girl's dress and drinking a beer. The police report says the child had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for alcohol consumption.
April Wright said, "Biggest concern was him being out there, getting kidnapped, getting run over, the alcohol, having to have his stomach pumped."
Wright says she woke up that night at 1:45 am and panicked when she found Hayden was gone. She says she put safety devices on all the doors so her kids couldn't get out, but Hayden was able to break the safety device off the doorknob and get outside.
Once out, Wright says her four year old followed his father's footsteps and was found on Blue Spruce Road, drinking.
"He runs away trying to find his father," she said. "He wants to get in trouble so he can go to jail because that's where his daddy is."
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office report says Hayden rang the doorbell a few houses down and the neighbor answered, finding the child holding a partially consumeed 12-ounce beer.
Wright said, "He got it out of my father's cooler in the back and how he got it open I don't understand because it was one of those tab beers."
But it doesn't stop there. The report said Hayden then snuck into a neighbor's house through an unlocked front door, and stole five wrapped Christmas gifts. One was a girl's brown dress which Hayden was wearing when police found him.
"Going to the neighbor's house and taking their presents, very embarrassing," said April.
She admits she was not just embarrassed, but scared, and rushed to the hospital that night with Hayden. She said she tries to be a good mother and loves her son, but now feels like a failure.
"Kids do things like this and it's out of your control, you can do the best you can as a mother, everyone makes mistakes, it was an honest mistake," she said.
Wright did meet with child protective services today who told her she will get to keep custody of Hayden.
Ok, I love the Go-Girl! I had to use it twice on the boat this past weekend. It was pretty neat. So.....thank's FC!
GoGirl.
"Simply put, GoGirl is the way to stand up to crowded, disgusting, distant or non-existent bathrooms. It's a female urination device (sometimes called a FUD) that allows you to pee while standng up. It's neat. It's discreet. It's hygienic."
It's also a grotesque and intriguing idea. Thanks Crystal for nabbing me one at the fair yesterday. Actually, I'm not sure if I should be saying "thank you" or "go .... yerself."
HA!!!
I'm kinda numb today....I can't believe it's going to be the eve of the 3 Day shortly. My whole team is staying at the Westin tonight by Southdale and at 6:00 AM tomorrow we will be walking over to the openening ceremony for the Breast Cancer 3 Day.
This has been an incredible journey. I know I keep saying that, but it's really hard to put it all into words. I'm so proud of my team, and of myself. I think it's ok for me to say this:
I am proud of myself. I worked hard for this cause. I put my heart into fundraising. I didn't train as much as I thought I would, but I'm proud of the training I DID do. I'm thankful for all my family and friends who supported me. I learned a very valuable lesson over the past few months, thanks to my hubby. It's not important who doesn't show up to support me, it's important who DOES. I get caught up in the "why didn't so and so show up? I would have been there for them." but instead, Jeff has taught me to think "I'm so glad so and so came today." and not think twice about the "no-shows". I also am learning to remember that everyone has different priorities in life. Some are selfless...some are selfish. It's not my job to worry about others priorites, but my own.
I'm proud of my family, especially my mom. She has been a huge supporter of me and my team. She came to several of our fundraising events, and helped when she could. Her and my "step-dad" Richie are going to be out at the cheer stations and opening and closing ceremonies. She made awesome signs to hold up and they will be wearing special t-shirts. This makes me very happy. I feel like my mom and I have always been close, but somehow this has made that bond a little stronger. Plus, I had no idea my mom was so artistic, her signs are awesome! (she said to me, "see, you're not the only creative one there Martha") HA!
I'm also proud of my hubby, Jeff. In the beginning of the 3 Day, I don't think he quite "got it". But over time, and as fundraising progressed, I think he saw just how serious I was about this cause. He helped with our fundraising events, help spread the word, and took care of me when I came home from events or long training walks. I love that big guy.
And my little Frankster....she get's some kudo's too. She's always there to welcome me home with lot's of love and kisses. Just what you need when you're body hurts so bad, you can't walk up the stairs. Her unconditional love carryed me right up those stairs to play our favorite game...CUDDLEBUG. (I'll jump on the bed, then she'll follow and jump all over me and try to kiss me and rub against me, talking the whole time, while I keep saying "how was your day cuddlebug? oh, it's my little cuddlebug.". - it's corny, but she loves it and so do I.)
So, wish me luck for this weekend. Pray for good weather, safety, and health. My tootsies will need it!
I will post again next week after the event!
Lot's of Love - Kel
I recently bought a new shampoo and conditioner. It's some organic coconut milk something er other. Now everytime I wash my hair, I crave Micky's coconut donuts....bad. I crave them so fiercly, I actually debate the idea of going to the store. I'm glad they don't make an eggs benedict scent.
